1．Now, this “Season of Phi” is slowly drawing to a close.

It’s time to return to the link between the Fermat numbers, the golden ratio, and "The Lord of the Rings".

Nineteen rings were ruled by the One Ring.
One for the Dark Lord,
nine for mortal kings,
three for the elves—through whom the hobbit-folk were blessed—
and seven for the stout-hearted dwarves.

rings are meant to be placed on fingers.

Yes— it is Φ.

This story, too, is a story of Φ.

Just as a diamond ring shines like the corona during a solar eclipse, rings have long been associated with celestial alignments and eclipses.

A perfect stage, bound by 1, 2, and 5....the framework of this world—

and into it are cast the rings of 1, 3, 7, and 9, bringing their chaos.

No one has yet worn the twentieth ring.

Tolkien, in his sketches of the twenty rings,
drew a twenty-first.

Φ is a building block of the circle, but also something that encloses.

What happens when the twenty are gathered?.....No one knows.

.....And what of the twenty-first ring—
why does it appear?
