183 60 Stars Astrology Season Vacation ⑤ 

"What is the Ascendant (ASC)" ?

1.  So, today we'll explain "the Ascendant (ASC)" .

The Ascendant is the position of the eastern horizon at birth, signifying the physical body and activity.

........The Ascendant can sometimes be difficult to distinguish from Saturn ♄. 

This is because Saturn shares the same elemental meaning of earth, which relates to career advancement or decline, money-making, and financial loss.

........Additionally, the Ascendant can sometimes be hard to tell apart from the Sun ☉. 

When the Sun has good aspects, especially for men, it often indicates work growth or busy schedules. 

Similarly, when the Ascendant has good aspects, work can suddenly increase = money tends to flow in.

However, there is a clear difference between the Ascendant and the Sun/Saturn.

That difference is that the Ascendant has absolutely no positive meaning whatsoever in either a conjunction (☌) or an opposition (☍).

The Sun's opposition carries a strong meaning of challenge, and in that sense, it can indicate an opportunity.

Saturn's opposition signifies an even more intense trial, yet even within that, there is a small chance.

However, the Ascendant has only negative meanings in both ☌ and ☍ aspects; there are no positive ones.

In other words, while sextiles and trines with the Ascendant during progression are favorable, any other aspect always carries a negative meaning.

......Well, since the Ascendant rules the intestines, you might suspect the Ascendant when experiencing poor health, especially diarrhea.


Anyway, that's why we can distinguish between the Sun, Saturn, and the Ascendant.

2. When studying progressions, what's most difficult at first is determining the position of the ASC.

The Ascendant, though often called the eastern horizon at birth, actually signifies the moment the soul entered the body.

Therefore, it often differs (is earlier) by 30 minutes to several hours compared to hospital records.

This means it typically shifts by about 5 to 20 degrees.

In such cases, even if the hospital record shows 2:00 PM, the actual time the soul entered the body was 1:15 PM, so the eastern horizon at that moment becomes the position of the Ascendant.

Of course, sometimes the soul enters almost at the moment of birth.

John Lennon is an example. 

The position of the horizon at the time on the hospital birth record differs not even one degree from the actual Ascendant position.

When John Lennon's song “Please Please Me” became a huge hit upon his debut, the Ascendant was in trine△  with his progression Sun.

Suddenly, he became busy and money started flowing in.

3. Even on Tanu-chan's this blog, I rarely write horoscopes about ancient people because it's difficult to determine their exact ASC positions accurately. 

This is due to unreliable birth records and differences in calendar systems.

Well, for this point, I recommend a site named ”Astro Seek”.

 

I don't think everything is completely accurate, but this site probably puts in considerable research—meaning they gather information from relatives and such—to improve the accuracy of birth dates and times.

.....Legends about ancient heroes often involve strange phenomena like dragons flying at their birth or two moons appearing, making their birth dates untrustworthy from the start.

Furthermore, people in the past sometimes disliked specific days, so children born on those days were recorded as being born on the following favorable day—or in extreme cases, a week later—making birth dates a complete mystery.

.......In cultures that value the accuracy of calendars and birth records, you might generally trust them, but as you know, even today, birth dates can be pretty imprecise in religious (church) marriage ceremonies.


Tanu-chan would actually love to write about the Roman Empire or the time of Genghis Khan too, but well, that's why the reliability of the sources is often quite low.

It's probably difficult to know the exact birth date or time, except for a very small number of high-ranking individuals or people from regions where there was a custom of creating birth horoscopes.

The reason horoscopes for famous historical figures from Asia and Africa are often unknown is largely due to these factors.

If the birth date is off, the Moon's position changes significantly. 

.......Therefore, if it's off by just a few days, it becomes impossible to determine.




4. However, while the influence of the Sun and Saturn, along with other planets, makes the birth date itself highly reliable, if the time is unknown, assuming the Ascendant and Moon positions and achieving a perfect match still allows us to consider the horoscope nearly accurate.

In this sense, deeply understanding the meaning of the Ascendant is necessary. 

However, what likely troubles everyone until the end is whether the Ascendant is in opposition.

That is, unlike other planets, the Ascendant has no positive meaning in conjunctions or oppositions. 

So, people agonize over whether it's Leo or Aquarius, for example.

.......In such cases, the Moon's position often proves decisive. 

Also, remember that the Ascendant often indicates a person's behavioral patterns, physique, and illnesses.

Now, Mao Zedong presents a challenge with this pattern. 

Was his behavior Sagittarius or Gemini?

Fire or Air?

Well, in terms of power, fire comes to mind.

But the difference between Fire and Air is this: both can be self-righteous, but Fire loves romance and narrative—meaning it favors humans entrusted with rule by gods, heaven, or national tradition (a monarch). 

Air, however, favors the revolutionary with new ideas—meaning it favors humans who sit at the pinnacle among their peers due to their outstanding abilities (a chairman).

Therefore, Mao Zedong, who preferred leading among his comrades, has Gemini♊ as his Ascendant.

A broad forehead is associated with Sagittarius, Gemini, and Virgo, so that alone isn't the decisive factor.

Both Gemini and Sagittarius tend toward tall height, so that alone can't determine it either.
