The Pyramid of Meidum ?

1. Among all the structures we call "pyramids," the most mysterious one is the Pyramid of Meidum. 

Some people even call it the "Collapsed Pyramid."

There is a common theory about it: that it originally had six or seven layers, then an eighth layer was added on top, and finally, they tried to turn it into a true, smooth-sided square pyramid. 

However, the story goes that because the slope was too steep, it all collapsed.

.........But this theory is a bit strange. 

For one thing, considering such a massive pyramid supposedly collapsed, there aren't nearly enough stones lying around the base. 

Furthermore, the very idea of building a smooth-sided pyramid with a slope exceeding 70 degrees seems inherently impossible.

.......Usually, you’d realize that's impossible before you even started.


If they were going to do it, they might have tried piling stones diagonally against the horizontal sections of a six-layered stepped structure to make the whole thing look like a pyramid. 

But with a slope of over 70 degrees, stacking stones like that would be incredibly difficult.


......So, in my imagination:

① Originally, there was a properly built, six-to-seven-layered structure with flat stacking.

② A later king (or someone) tried to add soil or stones to make it look like a "true pyramid" of their own making, but gave up when they realized it was impossible.

...............I suspect that is the real story.




2. If that's the case, it means the Pyramid of Meidum was originally intended to look exactly as it does now. 

So, the question remains: is this even a "pyramid"?

Before we answer that, there’s something I’ve been thinking about:

"Do the jagged niches in the walls of the Queen’s Chamber in the Great Pyramid, the jagged rooms in the Red Pyramid, and the jagged structure of the Pyramid of Meidum all represent the same thing?"

3. It’s just a gut feeling, but I suspect these niches and the Pyramid of Meidum are of a similar kind. 

Though the angles are probably a bit different.

Regarding the Pyramid of Meidum, the angle of the slope is said to be around 72 to 73 degrees. 

Of course, you can draw a line straight from the bottom edge to the very top in more than one way, but roughly 72 degrees seems right. 

That’s the angle of a Golden Triangle.

.......Some might point out that while the niches in the Queen’s Chamber are jagged, the Pyramid of Meidum doesn't look quite so "stepped." 

While there are many ways to look at it, I believe the Pyramid of Meidum was meant to be a structure with about six distinct layers or tiers, like this.

The top layer is the summit, so at first glance, it might look like there’s nothing there.

If we look at it this way, there’s a commonality in having six or seven layers. 

The niches in the Queen’s Chamber of the Great Pyramid appear to have six layers (though some say five). 

The Grand Gallery in the Great Pyramid is apparently seven layers, depending on how you count them. 

The space above the King’s Chamber is also tiered in a similar way.

........Does this mean the basic design is the same?

It’s just my imagination, but I have a feeling it is. 

The antechamber of the burial chamber in the Red Pyramid clearly has over a dozen tiers, so perhaps the exact number of steps isn't the deciding factor.

4. ...........So, back to the initial question: 

"Is the structure at Meidum a pyramid"? 

Personally, it feels like a prototype of a pyramid—a sort of original model.
